Uganda team mission – summer 2023

Jul 31, 2023

Bridgeway returned to Uganda this Summer with a team of 11 people. We had many team members who returned, but we also brought along a few new faces. It’s always a joy to return to the village of Toggo where we have been serving and investing in for so long.

Many of the team members who have been before were delighted to be picked up in our new bus. It’s such a blessing to be able to ride around in a vehicle large enough for our entire team and our luggage. The fact that it had AC as well is just a luxury.

Our first week we had the opportunity to teach our students about the being a disciple of Jesus through a discipleship class.

One of the best parts about our discipleship classes are the small group discussion times. This is where we see so many new relationships begin to form through talking directly with our students.

Towards the end of the 3 day discipleship class, we take time to pray over the students, collectively and individually.

This is always a powerful and healing time, as we experience a lot of students wanting to come forward to accept Jesus and some students who experience manifestation of demons.

VBS is always a fun (but exhausting) time for our team as we get to put on a program for the elementary students. We do songs, skits, memory verses and lots of games for students (and teachers) to participate in.

This year we wanted to make sure we put on a separate program just for the youngest students at our school. They really enjoyed playing with some of the crafts, sensory toys and games we brought for them.

Some of us got to go visit the homes of our sponsored students. It’s always exciting to see their homes and meet their families. Often times they give us small gifts to say thank you.

Our team got to be there during a special graduation ceremony for many of our past students. To announce and celebrate this, our team and students marched through the local village led by a marching band.

The COVID-19 lockdown really relayed a lot of students from being able to graduate and receive their certificate, so this graduation had students graduate from several years. We were even featured on the national Ugandan news!

We visited Kampala church and got to enjoy worship and fellowship. Kevin was asked to preach, and preached a powerful sermon on the armor of God!

We also visited Nicholus and Gabby at Wonder Afrika and got to see all the progress on their children’s home. We even put on a VBS program just for the kids.

At the very end of our trip we were able to take a short 2 day safari to Northern Uganda. We went to Murchison Falls National Park. This is the most powerful waterfall in the world!

The first day we take a boat ride, and saw lots of wild animals along the Victoria Nile river.

The next day we went on an early morning game drive. Always amazing to see such incredible wild animals up close.

On our last day was Nikki’s birthday so we were able to celebrate her that night with a party that included teachers and the high school students.

The next day we left for the airport to fly back to the USA. Thank you to everyone who prayed and supported team members on this mission.
